Spring 2008 CSE341: Roadmap
DATE  SUBJECT  Comments
5/14/08 Final Grade Go to Student Database on the left and view your grades.
4/22/08 Preparing for Midterm 2 I have posted solutions to all homeworks and quizzes in the regular spot (nickelback.cse.buffalo.edu). Let me know if you have any problems in copying them over.

In the solution to HW#11, there is a bonus problem that I included with solution. This is an elaboration of the problem that I tried to cover in the class today. Go over it and try to understand.

Also, outside my office, I have kept all the uncollected material (past homeworks, quizzes, and projects) in a box. They have been organized in several packets. Please put the clips back after you collected your stuff so that it still remains organized. This box includes Homework #10 as well.

4/20/08 Key Reading for Midterm 2 At some students' request, I have posted the key reading on the course newsgroup. Take a look. I will repeat this in Tuesday's class as well.

4/20/08 Final Week of the Semester This Tuesday we will have course evaluation, a quiz and review. The second midterm will be given on April 24th in the class.

Note that Project 3 is due in the class on Tuesday.

This week, we will have recitations only on Monday and Wednesday. Students from Thursday's recitation are free to join the other recitations. We will hold review in these recitations.

4/13/08 Final Week of Lectures Since the instructor is out of town until Thursday, his office hours on Tuesday are canceled. Recitations and classes will be held as usual. Please see the TAs or send an email to the instructor if you need to see. On Tuesday, we will cover Bus organization and on Thursday, Virtual Memory. This will be the end of lectures. Following week, we will have review, and midterm 2.
Note that in this week's recitation, we will do more practice problems on Cache memory and also cover some lecture material from Lecture #21. So, don't miss recitations this week!

Also note that Project 3 is out. Check the Handouts page.

4/07/08 Week of Cache Organization This week is devoted to Cache organization and improving cache performance.
Cache memories is a slightly difficult concept to understand. So, I will teach it using blackboard. Don't miss.
4/01/08 Project 2 Submission Guidelines You will need to submit only hardcopies.
Include the following: a) a cover page with names of the group members and the name of the group leader; b) brief description of the code you developed (a short paragraph) for Problem 1, printout of a well-commented code, results for the given test cases and more, if any, c) brief description of the code you developed (a short paragraph) for Problem 2, printout of a well-commented code, test cases and results for the given test cases.

At this time, we don't need your code, but the TAs may ask for it at the time of grading it.

You don't need to provide anything for Problem 0.

3/26/08 Homework #9 is out. There is no need to hand in this homework. This is just a set of practice problems.
3/21/08 Homework #8 is out. This is due next Thursday (3/27) in the class. Note that due to the CSE grad conference this Wednesday, Kerry Courtright's office hours are canceled for this week. You may however send him an email if you need to see him.
3/08/08 Week No. 10 I have posted material for the week after Spring Break.
3/01/08 Week No. 8 Since we had only one quiz so far in the class, you may expect a quiz in this week's recitation. Make sure that you attend the recitations this week.
2/23/08 Midterm Week In view of midterm, Tuesday's class will be a review class. I will return HW 4 and HW5 and solve some of the problems from HW6. I will take any questions that you may have.
Also, we will have review of all the previous homeworks in the Monday and Wednesday recitations. Take advantage of this opportunity if you have any questions on the previous homeworks.
I strongly urge the students in Thursday's recitation to double up on Monday (9:00 - 9:50 am at Talbert 107) or Wednesday (11:00 - 11:50 am at Capen 260). I am canceling Thursday recitation for this week. If any of Thursday students cannot make it to the other recitations, just see the TAs or myself during the office hours.
2/18/08 Lecture Material I have posted material for Tuesday. We will go through preliminary steps of control. The material for Thursday will be posted later.
Note that the homework has been posted.
2/14/08 Homework for next week There is a slight delay in posting next week's homework. It will be done Friday morning.
2/8/08 Week 5 The class material for next Tuesday is from the previous class.
I will have to be on travel early part of next week. So, my office hours on Tuesday are canceled. However, you are most welcome to stop by my office outside my office hours upon my return.
Class and recitations will be held as usual.
2/4/08 Class Material The class material for this week has been posted.
There is an opportunity to get scholarship to specialize in Computer Security. Look up [Scholarship].
1/31/08 Homework #3 is out This homework needs to be done completely. It will be graded for correctness.
1/25/08 My Office Hours for Next Week Since I am on a conference travel early part of next week, my office hours on Tuesday have been canceled.
The lectures and recitations will be held as usual.
1/23/08 Homework #1 Due Date Extended Since the Bookstore ran out of copies of the textbook, I have extended the submission deadline by one week. However, those who have finished the Homework can submit solution in the class tomorrow. Note that Homework 2 will be issued tomorrow and this homework will be due in one week.
Those who are going to submit Homework 1 and Homework 2 concurrently next week, must prepare the solutions as two separate submissions and hand-in in the class.
1/17/08 Recitation Notes For the week starting on 1/21/08, people in the Monday recitation will go to either Wed recitation (11:00 - 11:50 am, 260 Capen) or Thursday recitation (3:00 - 3:50 pm, 209 Norton) this week due to MLK holiday next Monday.
