      Produced by Tattvaloka, this is a comprehensive publication that draws largely from the above book. It also draws from other English, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu sources that are now out of print.   3. Swami Saccidananda Bharati (I), Jagadguru Sankaracharya of Sringeri, Gurustutisatakam, Sri Vani Vilas Press, Srirangam, 1971.
      A composition of Sri Sacchidananda Bharati (I), the 25th pontiff in the Sringeri Guru Parampara. These verses list the traditions of the Matha with respect to the lives of all the Acharyas of Sringeri, from Adi Sankaracharya upto Sri Abhinava Narasimha Bharati, the 24th Acharya. Sri Sacchidananda Bharati (I) also composed other hymns and metrical works such as Minakshi Satakam, Kovidashtakam and Ramachandra Mahodayakavyam.

  4. K. R. Venkataraman, Samkara and his Sarada Pitha in Sringeri; a study in growth and integration, Kalpa Printers and Publishers, Calcutta, 1969.
      The author, who was the director of public education in the erstwhile Pudukottai state, traces the influence of the successive Acharyas of Sringeri that can be inferred from various historical sources. He studies how the philosophy and the guru paramparas of various religious lineages in Hinduism are traceable through the Sringeri Acharyas to Adi Sankara and Gaudapada.

The author examines Vijayanagar inscriptions, records of donations by the post-Vijayanagar Nayakas, Kaditas of the Matha, etc. to reconstruct the history of the Sringeri Matha.

  13. Swami Swahananda (ed.), Monasteries in South India, Vedanta Press, California, 1989.
      This is a collection of essays on various monasteries in south India, compiled and edited by Swami Swahananda of the Ramakrishna Mission. It has a chapter on the Sringeri Matha, written by Sri V. S. Ramachandra Sastry. In the introduction, Swami Swahananda pays tribute to the Sringeri Matha as the original source of the monastic orders of Advaita Vedanta in the south.

  16. Munuganti Kripacharyulu, Sayana and Madhava-Vidyaranya : a study of their lives and letters, Rajyalakshmi Publications, Guntur, 1986.
      About the brothers Sayana and Madhava, the erudite writers of the early Vijayanagar period. Note that there is some confusion over whether Madhava, the brother of Sayana, is the same as Vidyaranya or not. This author identifies the two.

  17. T. N. Mallappa, Kriyasakti Vidyaranya, Bangalore University, Bangalore, 1974.
      This author expands on the debate over the identity of Swami Vidyaranya. He thinks that Vidyaranya is not identical to Madhava, the brother of Sayana. However, his identification of Vidyaranya with Kriyasakti, a Saiva guru mentioned in some Vijayanagar inscriptions, is highly suspect.

      This Kannada book reexamines the identity of Vidyaranya and Kriyasakti, in light of the above book, and conclusively proves that Mr. Mallappa is quite wrong in his identification of the two figures.

      Written by K. R. Venkataraman, M. K. Venkataraman and K. R. Srinivasan, this is an authoritative treatise on the life and teachings of Sri Vidyaranya of the Sringeri Matha.

  20. Vijayanagara - City and Empire - New Currents of Research, Steiner, Wiesbaden, 1985.
      Edited by Anna Libera Dallapiccola and Stephanie Zingel-Avé Lallemant, this two-volume work is an excellent compilation of recent research on the Vijayanagara empire. The first volume has a chapter by Hermann Kulke, on the connection of Swami Vidyaranya and the Sringeri Matha to the Vijayanagara empire.

  21. V. Jalaja Sakthidasan, Tippu Sultan, a fanatic?, Nithyananda Jothi Nilayam, Chennai 1990.
      This work touches upon the relationship that Tipu Sultan of Mysore maintained with the Sringeri Matha and Swami Sacchidananda Bharati (III), the then Sankaracharya of Sringeri. Contrary to some modern characterizations of Tipu Sultan as a fanatic Muslim ruler who persecuted his Hindu subjects, the records show that both Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan held the Sringeri Matha and other Hindu religious institutions in high reverence. During the Carnatic wars between Tipu and the British, some temples were damaged. Tipu Sultan wrote personally to the Sringeri Acharya, asking him to supervise the reconstruction and reconsecration of the temples in Kanchipuram and other places.

      Glenn Yocum's article is a study of the transmission of the Sringeri Guru Parampara that occurred towards the end of the year 1989, when Swami Bharati Tirtha's Pattabhishekam took place.
