International Applicants

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

International applicants may be required to provide proof of English proficiency via TOEFL or IELFTS. The exam results must be dated within 2 years from your proposed date of admission and remain valid upon entering the term you applied for. For example, Fall 2011 begins in August 2011; therefore, your exam results must be valid until August 2011.

Information and arrangements to take the exam can be made by contacting the Educational Testing Service at:

http://www.ets.org.

We strongly recommend that you make test arrangements early in the year so sufficient time can be allowed for the results to be reported before our application deadline.

The State University of New York at Buffalo has a minimum TOEFL score requirement of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (internet-based). On IELTS, UB requires an overall score of 6.5 with no band below 6.0.

Financial Statement

International applicants must submit a completed International Applicant's Financial Form with original bank statement(s) or a letter from the financial institution(s) on their letterhead for each year of intended study (2 years for master's and 5 years for doctoral).
