Description

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) sponsors Distinguished Speakers Series (DSS) and colloquium series events each semester. The speakers include well-known researchers invited from other universities and research centers, as well as UB faculty.

Attendance at Speaker Series events is a privilege of all members of the Department. You can learn a great deal about current research in a wide variety of areas of computer science by attending these talks, especially if the topic is one that is not taught here at UB. And you will have an opportunity to meet computer scientists from around the world.

    Research Spotlight

    Image analysis

CSE professor Aidong Zhang is developing intelligent content-analysis programs to automatically analyze images, replacing human coding of semantic content.

  • UB CSE Research Image

    Research Spotlight

    Structural determination

CSE professor Russ Miller is one of the authors of a program that can determine the structure of molecules as large as 2,000 atoms from X-ray diffraction patterns.

  • UB CSE Research Image

    Research Spotlight

    Handwriting recognition

Pursuing work on document verification and identification, CSE researchers use machine-learning algorithms to study handwriting variability.

  • UB CSE Research Image

    Research Spotlight

    Crystal clear

CSE Professor Russ Miller, along with Nobel Laureate Herbert Hauptman, developed an algorithm for crystal structure determination which is considered one of the top 10 algorithms of the 20th century by Computing in Science and Engineering Magazine.
