[2007-OCT-3] Notes at GLGP!
I just received the following note from Great Lakes Graphics and Printing:
It's 11:30 on Wednesday. The course packs are ready for sale to your students.

[2007-OCT-3] Lost USB key
I, Carl Alphonce, being of apparently sound mind and hopefully sound body, appear to have left my USB key in the CSE115 B classroom (Norton 218) this morning. If you found a USB key in that room, I would appreciate it if you could return it to me. It is a black 2GB key; it has tape wrapped around it (it's been through a rough few weeks) and contains a file named something like "USB Key Information" with my contact information on it.

[2007-OCT-3] Mentor meeting requirement
Reminder: you have until this coming Friday to meet with a mentor to have it count for your Lab 2 grade.

[2007-OCT-2] Campus Alert
In the interests of getting this message out to all of you, we are (re)posting the following message, which has gone out to the campus community in other ways too. The take-home lesson: always be careful!
CAMPUS ALERT FROM:
Gerald W. Schoenle Jr.
Chief of Police
University at Buffalo

Please be advised that a student was the victim of a Strong Arm Robbery late last night in the parking lot outside of South Lake Village. The suspect pushed the victim and grabbed her hand bag. A subsequent investigation by the University Police in conjunction with the Amherst and Buffalo Police Departments resulted in the arrest of the suspect.

Members of the University Community are reminded to always be cognizant of your surroundings and it is best to walk with others particularly after dark. Please report any suspicious activity to the University Police at 645-2222.

[2007-OCT-2] Lab 5
Hi everyone! We decided to make lab 5 a two-week lab. The due dates in the lab description now reflect the the two-week timeframe.

[2007-SEP-27] Essay assignment
Essay information is posted. Click on "essay" in the site navigation. Essay topic is due on Friday, October 5.

[2007-SEP-19] Modification/Clarification of In-Class Exam Grade Computation

If you have a valid medical excuse for missing an exam, no make-up exam will be given. Instead, your exam component grade will be computed as the average of your remaining exams.

If you have an unexcused absence from an exam, you will receive a grade of 0 for that exam, and this grade will be included in your exam grade.

The grading option of counting your final exam score as 50% of your total course grade will be available as long as you have no more than one unexcused missing in-class exam. (This is a modification.)

[2007-SEP-13] SoftWare Installation Fest (SWIF)

Do you think you'll want to do your homework for CSE113, CSE115 or CSE116 from home or your dormroom? If so, you'll need some software installed on your machine...UB VPN, XWin32, FileZilla, and Java, not to mention course-specific software!

Want some help? We're here! We are the CSE mentors, and we are holding a SoftWare Installation Fest (SWIF) to help make this as painless as possible. Here are the details:

Who: students in 113/115/116
What: software installation help
When: Monday, September 17 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Where: in Baldy 21 (the CSE115/116 lab)
Why: to get you set up to work from home
How: bring your computer (laptop or desktop) to the lab

We hope to see you on Monday!

PS We will host another SWIF in a few weeks, so if you can't make it on Monday, you'll have another opportunity soon.

[2007-SEP-13] Lab 1 notice for students in Thursday recitations
Part of what you needed to complete in lab 1 was an office hours attendance sheet. This sheet is due at your lab meeting this week, but because of Rosh Hashanah your lab did not meet this week. Please turn this in to your lecture instructor as soon as possible (Friday if you bring it with you, but no later than Monday's class).

[2007-SEP-08] Classlibs.jar and CSE115BookCode updated

We had to update the Classlibs.jar file we are using. This is something we will do from time to time throughout the semester (pretty much for each lab). Most of the time this will not affect you in the least, unless you are working at home (each lab will have instructions for how to work from home).

This time, however, the change that we needed to make forced a change to the code in the CSE115BookCode example. What does this mean for you?

  • Classlibs.jar
    • If you have been working from home, download the new Classlibs.jar from the Resources page of the course website, and replace the one you have in c:/projects/CSE115/Classlibs/Fall2007
    • If you have not been working from home, you don't need to anything.
  • CSE115BookCode project
    • If you haven't checked the project out from the BookCode repository yet, then nothing.
    • If, on styx, you have checked the project out from the BookCode repository, then delete the project from your workspace (delete contents too) and then check it out afresh from the repository.
    • If, on your home machine, you have checked the project out from the BookCode repository, then delete the project from your workspace (delete contents too) and then check it out afresh from the repository. (Make sure you've gotten the new Classlibs.jar too!)

[2007-SEP-05] Card access to the Baldy lab
You should all have swipe-card access to the Baldy lab. If you are having trouble getting in to the lab, first make sure that you have your card inserted correctly into the card reader. If you are sure that the card reader is reading your card correctly but is just not letting you in, let your TA know (give them your name and username) , so they can let the technical staff know.
