This new "Access Grid" facility at the University at Buffalo's Center
for Computational Research lets UB scientists do larger-than-life
scientific visualizations and share them with others around the world.
At left is an 11-by-8 foot tiled display powered by 20 personal
computers and 20 projectors that produce a combined resolution 20
times sharper than the typical computer monitor. Cameras, microphones
and ceiling-mounted projectors allow participants elsewhere to see
what is on the display and discuss it. At right is a 12-by-7 foot
screen that can show up to 30 remote participants. Demonstrating it
all is Russ Miller, left, director of the center, and Jeffrey Tilson,
computational scientist.
