11/23/08 Thanksgiving Week In Monday's class, we will go over key reading material for Midterm 2. At the end, we will also conduct the course evaluation.
There will be no more Recitations this week or next week.
Solutions to Quiz 3 and HW #4 have been posted. See the Handouts page for pointers.
11/17/08 Project 3 Project 3 has been posted. There will be some discussion on it during the recitation this week.
11/07/08 Week 12 I will quickly finish the key management and then start the lecture on OS security. There are no prepared slides. Everything will be written on the chalkboard.
11/06/08 Video Presentation Since this video is slightly longer than 50 minutes, I would like to start the class at 10 am sharp. You don't want to miss it! So, be there a few minutes early!
11/01/08 Week 11 You will do demo signup in Monday's class. We will also review Midterm solutions. The solution keys for Midterm 1 and Homework 2 have been posted on hadar.cse.buffalo.edu. Go to Handouts page and follow directions.
The recitation will resume this week. Make sure that you attend Monday's class to do demo signup. Also, be aware that Quizzes may be given either in the class or recitations.
10/27/08 Week 10 The material for this week has been posted. Homework 3 has also been assigned.
This week, the recitations are canceled. This will give you more time to work on the project, which is due on 10/31/08.
10/17/08 Week of October 20 The material for this week has been posted. Homework 3 will be posted this week.
10/12/08 Week of October 13 The material for this week has been posted. Recitations will resume this week.
09/27/08 Getting Ready for Midterm The midterm is in two parts.
Part I contains two questions and will be given on October 6th. First question will be on basic encryption and decryption.
Second question will be on DES. Each question will have sub-parts. Some parts would require critical thinking whereas others are more or less routine problems.
Part II contains three questions and will be given on October 8th.
Question 3 will be on AES.
Question 4 will be on RSA.
Question 5 will be on PKI in general including some of the basics on number theory covered in the class and recitations.
There will not be any questions on key management. We will include it in Midterm 2.
Accordingly, you can prepare your reading for midterm 1. Be thorough with class material and homework problems and the material covered in the recitations.
09/23/08 Recitations Next Two Weeks Recitations for next two weeks (Week of 9/29 and Week of 10/6) are canceled. However, the classes are being held as usual. Note that we have midterm 1 on 10/6 and 10/8.
09/20/08 Material for next 3 weeks I have posted the class material and some other information for the next 3 weeks.
This week's recitation will be on firewalls, leading up to Project 2.
The following week will have a Quiz and some video presentation.
The week after that will be the Midterm week.
09/16/08 Security Week at Polytechnic University I have posted some information on a security competition. Check under General Handouts in the Handouts page.
09/15/08 Monday Recitations Canceled I have posted the slides on PKE. Note that starting this week, we will have only two recitation sections - Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
09/08/08 Midterm Dates I have posted the 1-page syllabus. This can be printed by Clicking the Course Description button on the left.
Note that I have also indicated the midterm dates. Both midterms will span two classes. The midterms will be given in two parts since 50 minutes is too short to take a midterm.
09/03/08 Homework 1 Posted The first homework is assigned.
Some problems here are indicated as optional. These questions will not be graded but you are encouraged to try.
09/02/08 Material for Week 2 The lecture slides are now available.
The first project will be posted either this week or early next week. The first homework will be going out by Friday.
08/25/08 Conflict with CSE 501 I was told that the capacity in the other two recitations that do not conflict with CSE 501 has been increased. So, those who had a conflict with CSE 501 may re-register for the one of the other two recitations. If you cannot do it on your own, please see Helene Kershner at 208 Bell Hall.
Those who are not registered yet, may wait for a slot to open up. There were only 49 students in the class today. So, I believe that whoever is interested should eventually be able to get the course. My guess is that slots will open up once those who are uninterested in the course will drop eventually.
08/25/08 Lecture#1 This is an introductory class. We will go through the course contents and basic motivational issues. Check Lectures to go to the slides. There are no office hours or recitations this week.
