Ajay Shekhawat: Pictures from August 24, 2003 (5 pictures)

Next it was the Elmwood Strip's turn to throw a party. The Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts has more of a local flavor than the Allentown Arts Festival. Here, we see the Capoeira Mandinga Buffalo members performing the Capoeira with some breathtaking moves. This dance/martial art form was developed centuries ago by African slaves in Brazil, who couldn't learn martial arts for self-defense, so invented this 'dance' form to fool their owners. It worked for about 330 years before being banned in 1930s. The Spot Coffee (in the background) is a WNY establishment. Good atmosphere; great place to hangout and chill.
An entry ('Automobius') in the Art on Wheels exhibit ongoing in this region. I've managed to see only about 15 of the 57 exhibits. Having constructed a Mobius Strip in college, I can appreciate this particular display. I wonder what would it be like to drive this puppy?
View of the Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts from the south, looking north along Elmwood Avenue. On the right is the Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo.
Same picture as the previous one, but with some 'enhancement' done, courtesy of The Gimp, an excellent (FREE) PhotoShop clone for Linux (and maybe even Windows). I threw the pic in just to show what can be done with the Gimp by even a total newbie like myself.
A funky lawn sprinkler in the lawns of the UU Church. The artist who makes these sprinklers was selling these at the festival. A few kids were having a whale of a time playing with it.
