About Me
I am beginning my 5th year as a PhD student at UB in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. I am participating in the Ph.D Track Program in Cognitive Science.
Prior to UB I received an M.A. in Psychology and an M.S. in Computer Science, both from Boston University.
My areas of research include Applied Ontology, and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning.
I am interested in developing methods for applying formal ontological theories to practical domain modeling, with the assistance of logical reasoners.
My dissertation advisor is Dr. Stuart C. Shapiro, and I am a member of SNeRG (The SNePS Research Group).
The best way to contact me is to send email to apseyed AT buffalo DOT com.

Research-Related Activities
- "Workers of the World" accepted in the Maker Faire at the Travis County Expo Center in Austin, Texas on October 18 and 19, 2008.
- Attended the ICCL Summer School 2008 for Computational Logic and Cognitive Science in Dresden, Germany from August 24 to September 6th 2008.
- During the Summer of 2008 worked on "Workers of the World" under Professor Josephine Anstey, which is a guerilla-style performance for autonomous cleaning robots. I have contributed the high-level "cognitive" functioning of each robot and communication between robots as apart of the speaking parts for the plays they are performing.
- Presented on Emotion Theories at SNeRG (2/8/08).
- During the Spring 2008 Semester I worked as a research assistant under Dr. Shapiro on a DoD grant, primarily benchmarking and optimization of SnePS 2.7.0.
- During the Fall 2007 Semester I worked on a project for CSE663 Advanced Knowledge Representation and Reasoning for a SNePS Agent for the QPR Suicide Prevention Method. A sample interaction is available here.
- On 9/21/07 at SNeRG I presented my directed study from my MS in CS at Boston University, Reality TV interactions and rules.
