Dr. Hung Q. Ngo was born in Ha Noi, Viet Nam. He moved to Ho Chi Minh city (formerly Sai Gon) at an early age. There, he attended Le Hong Phong high school, then earned a B.S. degree in Computer Engineering from Ho Chi Minh city University of Technology. In 1996, he travelled to the U.S. and started the fun and thrilling adventure into the realm of higher knowledge in Mathematics and Computer Science.

He obtained an M.S. in Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota at Twin Cities in May of 2001. In August of 2001, he became an assistant professor at the Computer Science and Engineering at the State University of New York at Buffalo. In 2007, he was promoted to associate professor with tenure. He is a recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2004--2009), and an Exceptional Scholar (Young Investigator) Award from SUNY at Buffalo (2005).
