Welcome to my less formal page

I am pretty close with robots as you can see ;)

I really like talking in GENERAL terms. See here for a concrete example where i started almost from the dawn of civilization to give an introduction to history of robotics :-)

I might be considered a nerd :)

I am nerdier than 96% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out! My computer geek score is greater than 92% of all people in the world! How do you compare? Click here to find out! I am 62% loser. What about you? Click here to find out!

I like computer games:

I love game programming:

I do hate installation problems but with parallel systems you will be full of them

  • Have you ever wanted to use passwordless login with ssh: see here .You better want if you want to use pvm. rsh access is less common nowadays. Using 'alias rsh=ssh' will do the trick. Much cleaner than nasty rsh and rhosts.
  • Ever tried to build pvm on cygwin? didn't work? don't worry. We have a nice built binary for a recent cygwin distro. see http://kovan.ceng.metu.edu.tr/software/PES/
  • Always keep in mind: "W2K changes environment variables AFTER a restart"
  • HP Jornada 548 is a POCKET PC not POCKET PC 2002.
  • CVS is a good thing. If you manage to set it up (just few environment variables nothing else) Use wincvs for windows.
  • A few tricks about CVS installation. Recent systems use xinetd.d and if your distribution comes with cvs then it is simple. Just enable cvs pserver from services or change the disabled flag in /etc/xinetd.d/cvs. One more point to check is that all users of cvs must have rights to modify/delete/read the cvs folders. using groups is a good idea. see following for more information. (cvs installation search in google is also a good start)
    http://www.devguy.com/fp/cfgmgmt/cvs/cvs_admin_linux.htm
  • following options seem to work on mandrake 10
    socket_type = stream
    protocol = tcp
    wait = no
    user = root
    server = /usr/sbin/cvspserver
    server_args = -f --allow-root=/usr/local/cvs-rep pserver
    disable = no
    log_on_success += USERID DURATION
    log_on_failure += HOST USERID

I like sci-fi and fantasy literature. I read a little when I feel less lazy. Some of my favorite authors include:

  • Raymond Eric Feist : Riftwar Series
  • Isaac Asimov : Foundation, I robot, he is the man.
  • Dean Koontz : Coool books. I am not much fan of thriller but this man rocks.
  • Terry Pratchett : Diskworld... it is a place you'd love to be... hail for Rincewind
  • Douglas Adams : Are you afraid of hitchhikers?
  • Bernard Werber : Ants in a novel? how? see yourself.
  • Tad Williams : Otherland seems nice but I've only read one of his books.
  • Larry Niven : Ring World. Cool golden age author.
  • AE Von Vogt: Very interesting author... bizarre books. Null-A is word to describe what it looks like ;)
  • Jean Christophe Grange: I must admit this guy is one of the best I've read recently.
  • Michael Crichton: Well it is way better than grange. Really. Jurassic Park, Sphere, Prey. Do I have to count more of them?
