Panel on OBS and Grid Computing
Grids have received an increasing amount of attention in recent years from the research community. Grid applications developers requiring movement of petabyte and tera byte data sets have become frustrated with interference from network flow control mechanisms in TCP/IP and have turned to the use of dedicated optical channels for file transfer. OBS systems have the potential to allow sharing of these dedicated and expensive resources without incurring undesirable effects of packet networks and plans have begun developing for experimental systems to evaluate this possibility.
The panel will discuss technical issues and experimental efforts associated with grids as a driving OBS application.
Moderator Dr. Harry Perros, North Carolina State University.
