Place: Chongqing, China
Date: May 29, 2005 (Sunday)
Driven by the world-wide advance in broadband
access, and the need to meet the expected increase in high-speed
traffic demand in the core, R&D interest in optical packet/burst
switching continue to grow over the last few years. This workshop
follows the success of the last three International Workshops on
Optical Burst Switching held in the US since 2003 (see
http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/~qiao/wobs/) and the first
Workshop on Optical Packet and Burst Switching held in Japan as a
part of last years’ OECC/COIN in 2004 (see
http://www.e-photon-one.org/ephotonone/fitxers/OECC%20Workshop%20Report.pdf
for a brief report), which was attended by 80-100
people.
This workshop on OPS/OBS will be held on Sunday May 29thth, 2005 in Chongqing, China, as a part of COIN
2005.
Its aim is to unified the global effort on
optical packet/burst switching by bringing together people from all
over the world into a single event , where they present and obtain
the state-of-he-art information on government funded programs,
industry R&D projects, and academia research activities.
The workshop will feature invited speakers and
panels during the day, and a reception in the evening.
Topics to be covered include but not limited to
-
Why OPS/OBS are being considered as an
replacement, or complementary alternative to optical circuit
switching? What are the killer applications?
-
How OPS/OBS will be deployed? Is it in the
core only? or in the access/metro as well? What is the expected
time line?
-
Who are working on OPS/OBS related R&D
activities? And what kind of activities they are working on and
at what stage are these various activities? What are the
opportunities for collaboration?
-
What are the technical (as well as
business/economic) challenges, and how are they being addressed?
What are the remaining hurdles that have to be cleared?
