How to Download Your Own Copy of Compworks onto a Windows PC or a Mac

1. Download Compworks by linking to the following sites, in order:
   • Great Ideas in Computer Science
   • Software
     (also called "Special Software to Help You Learn")
   • This-is-how-a-computer-works (TIHACW)
     (also called "Current directory is /pub/compworks")
   • Then either:
     • dos (for Windows machines), or
     • mac (for Macs)
     This will lead you to a page with lots of files on them. You must download all of them.

2. If you are using Netscape, then: Netscape will bring up a "Save As..." Dialog box.

3. If you are using Internet Explorer, then: Internet Explorer will ask you "Run this program from its current location" or "Save this program to disk".

   • Choose "Save this program to disk".

   • It will then bring up a "Save As..." Dialog box.

4. In either case, save the program somewhere on your computer. Make sure you know where it is. (A good place is in C:\Programs)

5. You will have an icon called "Comp1" on your computer. Run the program by double-clicking on it.
