Rapaport" Subject: Academic Integrity To: CSE191-SP08-LIST@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Subject: Academic Integrity ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Academic Integrity" is the opposite of "plagiarism" or "cheating". There have been a few suspected cases of it in some of the HWs. I have no problem if you work together, but you should **not** copy from each other. The best way to do your HW is as follows: 1. Try the problems entirely on your own. 2. If, and only if, you are stuck, then you may discuss the problem with a friend. 3. But then you should go back and try to solve the problem on your own, and you should certainly write it up on your own. Here are some ways that we can identify possible cases of cheating: * same answers, but different variables * exact same phrasing of explanations * same grammatical errors in explanations * same spelling errors The ultimate penalty for cheating is failure **in the course**. Please try to avoid this at all costs! Please re-read the following documents carefully: 191 Syllabus section on academic integrity: http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/~rapaport/191/S08/syl.html#honesty "Academic Integrity: Policies and Procedures" (CSE dept.) http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/academics-academic_integrity.shtml "Academic Integrity" (from the Undergraduate Catalog) http://undergrad-catalog.buffalo.edu/policies/course/integrity.shtml "Plagiarism". http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/~rapaport/plagiarism.html
