Subject: TA expectations of faculty

Faculty who have TAs have certain expectations of them.

However, a recent survey from SIGCSE of TAs at another university
indicated that TAs have certain expectations of *faculty*!

| Expectations TAs have of faculty teaching the courses in which they
| assist:
| 
| *	Faculty need to be available to meet with the TA.

| *	Faculty need to have a course plan and schedule, and  they need
| 	to use the plan and schedule when teaching the course.

| *	Faculty need to provide their TAs clear instructions and give
| 	them clear expectations.

| *	Faculty need to be approachable. The faculty/TA relationship
| 	needs to be professional, open, and respectful.

| *	Faculty need to understand that TAs have other obligations in
| 	addition to assisting in teaching this course. 

| *	Faculty need to have patience. After all, TAs are still
| 	students.

| *	Faculty need to assign a reasonable workload to the TAs. TA
| 	assignments are [usually] for...20 hours per week.

| *	Faculty need to give advice to TAs on how to interact with the
| 	class and how to teach some topics.

| *	Faculty need to trust their TAs and allow them some freedom to
|	make decisions.
