Rapaport" Subject: 575: Sending me online documents To: CSE575-FA08-LIST@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Subject: Sending me online documents ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Several of you have been sending me online documents, e.g., drafts of your term-project proposal. To make life easier for me, please abide by the following guidelines for such online documents: - don't if possible; I much prefer hard copy. - filename must not have spaces: I use Unix, not Windows or Mac. Unix does not like filenames with blank spaces. - filename must include your name: A file labeled "proposal.doc" is hard to distinguish from a dozen other files witht the exact same name. - if plain text, then no special characters; only ASCII. So, don't create a plain text document using Word and then attach it. It will appear with symbols like "=20" at the end of each line, and quote marks and apostrophes will be similarly encoded. - don't send me .doc files and especially no .docx files. I can read the former, but it's a real hassle; I can't read the latter at all. I'd prefer PDF. Thanks! PS: If you've already sent me a file that violates one or more of these suggestions, please resend it in a more usable form.
