Discharge summary for Kate K medical record number 1084 date of birth 8/24/99 date of admission 1/26/00 date of discharge 1/27/00 Dear Dr. Baier, This is a five -month-old female who was sent to the children's hospital = emergency room by the private doctor for hypoxia. Patient had a history = of fever and cough for two days prior to admission. Patient was = initially diagnosed with otitis media by the private doctor and placed = on amoxicillin. In the emergency room, the patient was found to have a = pulse ox of 87 to 92 percent on room air and a temperature 38.4. A = chest x-ray revealed a left lower lobe pneumonia. A respiratory screen = was obtained and the patient was begun on ampicillin. Patient was = placed on oxygen as well. On the floor, the patient was very rapidly weaned off of oxygen. By the = morning after admission, the patient was stable on room air and eating = well. Patient was changed back to oral amoxicillin and discharged home. = Respiratory screen was pending at the time of discharge. The final = diagnosis was bacterial versus viral pneumonia.
