Research Interests

Vishal Anand

My research interests are in the area of computer communication networks and protocols with emphasis on optical networks.  My Ph.D. advisor is Dr. Chunming Qiao, who is also the Director of LANDER (Laboratory for Advanced Network Design, Evaluation and Research).

Some of the research areas that I have worked and am interested in the future are:

  • Computer Communication and networks, in general
  • Optical Wavelength Division Multiplex networks, Optical Internetworking
  • Routing and Wavelength Assignment in Optical networks
  • IP over Optical networks
  • Fault tolerance and survivability schemes in Optical networks
  • Wavelength Band Switching in Multi-granular Optical networks employing hierarchical Multi-granular Optical Cross-connects
  • Use of Wavelength converters and related conversion technologies in Optical networks
  • Wavelength Division Multiplex network economics
  • Reconfiguration and Virtual Topology design in Optical networks
  • Optical Burst Switching (OBS) paradigm, scheduling, blocking analysis
  • Optical, IP, MPLS network and traffic modeling, planning, design and performance analysis
  • Optical network control
  • Telecommunication Management Systems, Network and Element Management Systems
  • Optical networking and communication devices
  • Mobile, Wireless and Personal Area Networks and related technologies
  • Computer Security, Information Assurance and Distributed Computing
