Let me try to help. There are generally going to be two kinds of readings: 1. Papers that are on my computer, usually accessible from http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/~rapaport/Papers/Papers.by.Others/ with a filename following the last slash. This is where you need the username and password to access my directory: username = Bill password = Rapaport Please spell these correctly and note the inital capital letters. 2. Papers that are off campus at websites only accessible from buffalo.edu machines. It's hard to give very general instructions, since each site works a bit differently. Here's an example to help you get started: The paper by Newell, Perlis, & Simon (1967) is located at the JSTOR website, which you can only access from a buffalo.edu machine. If you are on campus using a buffalo.edu connection, clicking on the link at our course webpage will take you there directly. I think this is your best bet; you can download the paper to your computer and either print it on campus or print it at home, or read it on your computer as you wish. If you are at home and you want to access it, then: Here's ONE way to do it (there are others): 1. Go to MyUB (enter YOUR username and password to access MyUB) 2. Go to "My Library" (click on the link in the left-hand column) 3. Go to "UB Libraries (main page) (under "My Library Research" in the second column) 4. Go to "Electronic Journals" (under "Quick Links") 5. You may have to give YOUR username & password again at this point 6. In the Search box, type in the name of the journal that the article you want was pubished in. E.g., for Newell, Perlis, & Simon 1967, that was "Science", so type "Science" without the quote marks in the Search box. 7. Click on "Search" 8. Click on the appropriate link to access the journal. E.g., for Science, which is listed here as "Science (Washington, D.C.) (0036-8075)" click on "JSTOR" (because that's the link that will take you to the issues for 1967) 9. For JSTOR, click on "Browse This Journal" 10. The article we're looking for is in Vol. 157, so click on "Vols. 151 - 160 (1966 - 1968)" 11. The article we're looking for is in No. 3795, so click on "No. 3795, Sep. 22, 1967, pp. 1345-1504" 12. That takes you to a table of contents. Here, you have several options. If you want to read the article on line, click on the title of the article. If you want to print or save it (using Acrobat, because it's a PDF file), click on "Print", and follow the directions. Other articles in other journals work similarly. As I said, it's a LOT easier to do this on campus.
