Target/Transference/Vehicle

The syntax for Target/Vehicle/Transference

An example of T/V/T. The actual sentence is:

"The way cats creep is like the way fogs creep."

Creating a case frame that displays metaphors or similies is difficult. Marc sites research where every methaphor "consists of a target, a vehicle, and some transference of meaning." This transference of meaning is the most difficult part to grasp. What does it really mean that cats and fogs creep in the same manner? We know they both creep to begin with and we know that creeping basically means to move quietly (almost sneaking). What does the similie tell us that we did not already know via the fact that both fogs and cats creep? It would seem that fog does some specialized type of creeping (not the garden variety) that cats can also do and this is what the similie wants to convey.
