Next: Past and Current
Up: Research Goals and Selected
Previous: Introduction
My past research has focused mainly on developing techniques for constructing
effective graph visualizations and working on the related
user-interface issues. I have also dealt
with issues related to computing over the Web in a research project. In the summer of 1994,
while at Cadre Technologies, a leading developer of CASE tools, I worked
on a software for visualizing Rumbaugh models of
object-oriented programs. This gave me an opportunity for applying my
knowledge in an industrial setting.
As part of my future research work, I would like to do the following:
- Continue my current research projects on graph visualization and the
related user-interface issues (see the next section).
- Develop technologies for Web-based applications.
An immediate goal is to improve
our graph drawing and translation service.
- Conduct research on issues arising in information visualization,
user-interfaces and human-computer interaction. Specific topics
include visualization of large data
sets [1, 44],
3D visualizations [11, 72], and
demonstrational interfaces [48, 53].
- Use my experience with designing geometric algorithms to solve
problems in research areas such as solid modeling, computer
graphics, and computational geometry.
- Work on visualizing the information subspaces of the WWW.
Specific topics include visualizing the structure of HTML-documents [29, 52, 74],
Web-navigation [35, 54, 58], and visualizing Web-search results [51].
- Apply visualization techniques in applications such as
software engineering, computer aided design, visual programming, geographic information systems, and multimedia document generation [74].
